Sarah Mingo Stevenson

Involved in Parent Teacher Association for 40 years, helping to integrate the black and white PTA councils. Was elected to serve as the first African – American President of the Charlotte – Mecklenburg Council of PTAs and a member of the Board of NCPTA. Was the first black female elected member of the Charlotte – Mecklenburg Board of Education (1980 – 88). Sojourner Truth Award in 1980. Woman of the Year 1992.
