Susan Hancock Sewell
Was leading advocate for affordable housing, serving as the first paid Executive Director of Charlotte’s Habitat for Humanity. Led the organizations to become the largest affiliate in the U.S., the first affiliate to complete 100 houses, the first to build a home in 24 hours, and the first to complete a house built entirely by women, giving Charlotte national attention. Became Director of U.S. Affiliates for Habitat for Humanity in 1983. Woman of the Year 1990.
