Margaret Whitton (Maggie) Ray

Chaired the Citizens’ Advisory Group that successfully drew up an alternative desegregation plan for Charlotte – Mecklenburg Schools, ending the impasse created by Swann vs. Board of Education over cross-town busing. Taught biology for 20 years (1976-96) in public schools. Served on the Board of Trustees of CPCC and the League of Women Voters. Woman of the Year 1974.
