Jonnie Horn McLeod, M.D.

Founded the Charlotte Drug Education Center, where she was Director 1967 – 1975 and the Open House Drug Counseling Service, now McLeod Addictive Disease Center. Served as consultant to the Charlotte – Mecklenburg School System for the health education program that incorporated the sex-education curriculum she created. Was elected as only the second female President in the history of the Mecklenburg Medical Society. Chaired the governor’s Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse among Youth. Woman of the Year 1969.
