Charlotte Metcalf Watkins

Served as President of the N.C. Congress of Parents and Teachers, where she presided over the unification of the NCPTA and N.C. Congress of Colored PTAs. Appointed by President Nixon in 1969 to the Cabinet Committee on Education and Desegregation. Obtained the first U.S. grant for the national PTA to prepare teachers, parents, and youth in seven states for desegregation. Woman of the Year 1968.
