Carrie Bess Cole Winter

Served as President of the PTA Council during the school desegregation process. Founded the PTA Thrift Shop. Served three four-year terms on the Charlotte–Mecklenburg Board of Education (1976-88), receiving national attention for the openness of her leadership in the search for a new superintendent search while chair. Was an organizing member of the Mecklenburg Council for Adolescent Pregnancy, and Teen Health Connection. Woman of the Year 1986.
